What are the advantages of Maki Car Rental?
Maki Car Rental has set itself the task of combining modern rental cars with reasonable prices. We work in different locations around the globe and guarantee high quality. This quality is achieved because we work with major subcontractors to rent through the well-known car rental companies. Normally the customer pays a notable part of the price for the marketing of the big car rental companies. We provide you with the same car – but at a much lower price. Furthermore, we differ from other car rental brokers in not trying to work with as many subcontractors as possible and accepting all their different quirks. Instead we maximize standardization regarding rental conditions.
Who are the people behind Maki Car Rental?
Maki Car Rental is a brand of Indian Ocean Travel. We are in the car rental market for some years now and have gained our experience on the Mauritian car rental market. We have offices in the United Kingdom, Germany, Romania and Mauritius and our registered seat is in Mauritius for economical and quality-of-life reasons. All our employers speak fluently English and German.
The online booking process
How do I make a booking at Maki Car Rental?
The booking process just takes about 5 minutes of your time. First, you select the booking period, the pickup and the return location and click on the "show offers" button. You will get a list of our cars already calculated with total price including pickup and return fees. The cars will be grouped by availability status (green = available, yellow = partially available, red = not available). You can choose any of the available cars by clicking on the "Book now" button, which is directly below the price of each car. On the following page you can supply further details like payment and insurance options and, of course, your name and address. The next step will again show you all your data and with a click on the "send booking" button you finish the booking process. Immediately after that you will receive a confirmation of receipt via email. One of our local partners will be informed about your booking, too. As soon as we get the green light, we will send you a booking confirmation and invoice via email.
Which payment methods are available?
Currently you can pay via bank transfer, credit card (Visa & MasterCard) and PayPal. If you pay with bank transfer, you send us 30 % of the total amount after receiving the invoice. The other 70 % shall be paid 14 days before the pick-up of the car. If you pay by credit card, we will charge your card with the total amount after creation of the invoice. If you prefer PayPal, you will get a special payment link together with your invoice. With this link you shall transfer the total amount within 7 days to our account.
Will I get exactly the car that I have choosen?
We try to deliver exactly the car model that you have booked. Sadly there are rare cases when this is not possible like accidents, repairs or simply bad planning. However, you will always get a car of equivalent or higher value than the one you have chosen.
Is there a minimum booking duration?
Yes, currently we only offer bookings of 3 days or longer. For economic reasons we have to put a surcharge on bookings which are less than 5 days. If you do a 4-day-booking, the surcharge is 15 % of a day rate and for a 3-day-booking it is 30 % of a day rate. However, our prices are still competitive and of course the surcharge is already included in the totals shown on the website.
Do I need a credit card?
No, you can also pay via bank transfer and PayPal. Please note, that if you do not own a credit card you might be obligated to pay a deposit in cash. more about deposit
How do I pay via Paypal?
After you send your booking, you will receive a confirmation email. In that email is a section with the PayPal logo on the right side. On the left side you find a link which takes you directly to PayPal, with the payment data already set. There you enter your PayPal login data to proceed. If you do not already have a PayPal account, you can either signup (It's free!) or try PayPal as a guest.
How can I book extras?
You can add extras like a child seat or satellite navigation (GPS) during the booking process in the step where you also supply your name and address. Upon demand we can also supply you with a driver.

What are the terms for cancelation?
If you want to cancel your booking, you can do that free of charge until 48 hours before the rental period without giving any reason. If you cancel your booking later or give the car back before the end of the booking period, we charge 30 % of the (remaining) rental fee or 49€, whichever is greater.
Crashes and breakdowns
What happens if I am involved in a car crash?
In case of a car crash, please inform the hotline mentioned on your booking confirmation as soon as possible. A friendly employee of Maki Car Rental is available 24 hours a day. He can organize a replacement car for you and help you with other issues like informing the police, which is mandatory for insurance reasons.
What happens in case of a breakdown?
Even though we do not rent any car older the 3 years, we cannot eliminate the possibility of a breakdown. We can understand your frustration if that happens during your holidays. Therefore we try to get you a replacement car or roadside assistance as soon as possible. On your booking confirmation you will find the telephone number of our 24-hour hotline, where our friendly employees are waiting to help you out in any situation.
Insurance and liability policy
Which insurances are included?
All cars on Maki Car Rental are under comprehensive coverage with unlimited liability sum. The insurance covers all cases, except the ones caused by driving under the influence, violation of the rental terms or culpable negligence. Unless there is a country specific exception stated below, damages to tires, glass, roof and underbody are not included. Personal belongings as well as lost/stolen or damanged car keys are not covered, either.

Is there a deductible in the event of damage or loss?
By default you have to pay a certain deductible (depending on country and type of car) in the event of damage or loss. You have the option to waive the deductible by paying an additional fee per day. You will be able to see the exact prices and to choose one of the beforementioned options after you selected one particular car in the booking process.

Do I have to pay a deposit?
If you have chosen the insurance with deductible, you either have to supply your credit card data or pay a deposit, which is the amount of the retention. Please note, that the credit card owner should be present when the car is picked up. If you have chosen the insurance without deductible, you do not have to pay a deposit.
Pricing and Services
How are the prices calculated?
The prices on Maki Car Rental are seasonal. Furthermore we provide two discount levels: If your booking is seven days or longer you qualify for discount level 1 and if it is ten days or longer you qualify for discount level 2. The exact pricing table depends on the car type. If you want all the details, please do as follows: Head to the "Cars and prices" page and hold your mouse pointer over the little i-sign in the upper right corner of each result box. Of course our booking system will calculate the total price automatically once you supply the rental period. Please note that all our invoices will be in Euro. If you see prices in other currencies, this is for your convenience only. We try to automatically guess your preferred currency by the country you seem to come from.

Where can I pick up my rental car?
There are different possibilities to get your car. You can either pick it up at the airport or it can be delivered to a place of your choice. Just tell us the pick-up/drop-off place and the time and a driver will then wait for you there. For some places the delivery is already included in the price and for some places we have to charge extra. You will get further information on that during the booking process.
Can I supply different places for pickup and return of the car?
Yes, in general we do accept one way rentals. The pricing depends on the country where you rent the car.
