Insurance and deductible explanation
The deductible (a.k.a. excess) seems to be something that many of our potential customers get confused by. Simply put: If you paid a deposit and nothing happens to the car, you'll get the full amount back. You also have the option to waive the deductible if you pay a non-refundable daily fee (a.k.a. SCDW = Super Collision Damage Waiver). Note that this option is only available for bookings of 5 days or longer. The following flow chart tries to answer a few more of the "what happens if?" questions you may have:
Important: Zero deductible does not mean zero responsibility!
Regardless of the insurance coverage you have, you must report any accident or damage to the local emergency hotline as soon as possible. If a third party is involved, you should, whenever possible, collect their license plate number and insurance details. The hotline will provide further instructions, which may include filing a police report or exchanging the vehicle.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in your insurance coverage being voided. This is not just about internal policy — your cooperation is essential to ensure that our insurance partners accept and process any claim. If basic procedures are not followed, the insurer may legally refuse to pay out, leaving you personally liable for the full cost of any damage.

Deposit explanation
If your insurance option requires a deductible, we require you to pay a deposit that equals the amount of the deductible. If your insurance option does not require a deductible, we require you to pay a deposit of at least ~€77 for damages not covered by the insurance and violations of the rental terms. The deposit can be paid in cash or by credit card. Cash deposits can be made in Mauritian Rupees. Other major currencies are fine too, but please add at least 5 % for currency conversion/fluctuation. If you choose to pay the deposit by credit card, the amount may be authorized (a.k.a "blocked") on your credit card. Please note that the person who is named on the card has to be present at that time. For technical reasons, the authorization might be kept active up to two weeks after you have returned the vehicle. Keep in mind that this effectively reduces the spending limit of your card during that period even though the transaction might never show up on any of your credit card statements.
