Why you should drive a car in Sibiu

Romania

Sibiu was the European Capital of Culture in 2007. Many tourists visit Transylvania to discover the architectural beauty of Sibiu. The surrounding region also benefits from Sibiu's popularity. The bathing resort Ocna Sibiului is only 15 kilometers from Sibiu. However, you need a car to enjoy the salty water and the temperate continental climate: Busses and trains do exist, but they are often overcrowded and not air-conditioned. In the vicinity of Sibiu are several national parks which are perfect for a hiking or driving Enduro bikes. The well-maintained streets even allow you to drive through the park. From your rental car you can see lush green forests and watch flocks of sheep make for perfectly picturesque scenery.

Romania

The city of Brasov in Transylvania is at 100 km from Sibiu. There you can walk in the footsteps of Count Dracula and explore his castle, which is one of the tourist highlights in Romania. The city of Brasov is also called "Salzburg" of Romania. As an old merchant city, it has become rich and famous. Today, the city hall and the black church still bear witness to the historical roots. With a rental car you are able to drive flexibly and comfortably from Sibiu to Brasov and maybe even to the winter sports area "Poiana Braşov". Roughly 1000 meters above sea level, you can enjoy skiing or snowboarding and stay in a nice hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

All cars under Maki Car Rental have full comprehensive insurance coverage (CDW), which includes theft protection (TP). The maximum liability sum depends on the respective country (see below). The insurance covers all cases except accidents caused from driving under the influence, violation of the rental terms or culpable negligence. Damages on the bottom of the vehicle, loss or damage of the car keys as well as personal belongings are not covered. Further country specific exceptions can be found below: In Romania, damages to the tyres are not included in the cover.

For rental cars, there are two different possibilities: you can either pick it up at the airport or it can be delivered to a place of your choice. Just tell us the time and the pick-up/drop-off locations and a driver will wait for you there. For some areas the delivery is already included in the price and unfortunately for more remote areas we have to charge a little extra. The delivery price is already included in the quotes you see on our website.

If there is a deposit to be paid for the car of your choice, you will be notified about this during the booking process. Typically, the deposit is the same amount as the deductible. If you choose an insurance option without deductible, you typically still have to pay a (small) deposit. This is to account for e.g. damages not included in the insurance and refueling. You can pay the deposit when you pick up the car either in cash (in the currency shown or any other supported currency; other currencies upon request) or by credit card. However, please make sure that the full amount is available on your card and that the owner of the card is present at the time of pick-up. If the car is brought back in the same condition as when you picked it up, you will receive the full amount back. In Romania, the deposit is at least €150 (~ $168).

Tourists are allowed to use their existing drivers licence in Romania (non-EU citizens can only drive a vehicle for a maximum of 90 days). It must be possible to read your licence without special language skills. When in doubt, an EU or international drivers licence is recommended.
